Jacques Lacombe Returns to NJSO: A Glimpse of the New Era

April 30, 2010

On April 22th Jacques Lacombe led his first concert in the new role of New Jersey Symphony Orchestra’s Music Director Designate. The program included Jacques Hétu’s Sur les rives du Saint-Maurice, Dvorak’s Symphony From the New World, and Brahms’s Violin Concerto performed by Jennifer Koh.

Praised by critics, this concert indicated great promises :

“Based on this initial encounter, a program featuring standard works by Brahms and Dvorak, the prognosis is decidedly positive”.
    – Steve Smith, New York Times

“Jacques Lacombe could hardly have made a stronger impression in his first concert as the designated music director of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra. (...) This was easily the strongest concert of the season so far, and one looks forward to hearing more”.
    – Ronni Reich, The Star-Ledger
